Students Deserve Better Choices

Years of budget cuts have left Ontario’s elementary students without the supports they need. The problems are real. The solutions are simple and doable.

  • Smaller class sizes.
  • More educational assistants, psychologists, behavioural counsellors, child and youth workers, and speech and language pathologists.
  • Better access to in-school supports, especially in underserviced areas.
  • Timely access to assessments and interventions to support student needs as soon as they are identified, and an end to waitlists.

All of these things would make real differences in the lives of students.

Yet the Ontario government just tabled a provincial budget for 2024-25 that continues its pattern of under-investing in schools, while giving away billions of dollars in tax cuts to wealthy corporations.

I am calling on the Ontario government to make better choices by prioritizing students’ needs over corporate tax cuts.
